This popular and versatile chassis gave rise to a variety of uses, including that of Gun Motor Carriage (GMC), a half-track equipped with a 75 mm anti-tank gun. When the United States witnessed the devastating power of the German Blitzkrieg in 1940, there was an urgent call for the production of fighter carriers. The GMC M3, equipped with a 75 mm M1897A4 gun, was one of the urgent solutions, standardized in October 1941. More than 2,200 examples were produced, although only 842 entered service, as the remainder were converted back into standard troop transport vehicles. The GMC M3 was employed by the U.S. Army in the Philippines (where some captured examples were even used against U.S. forces in 1944!), Tunisia and North Africa (e.g., in the Battle of Kasserine Pass), and Sicily. They were later phased out of service in favor of the far more effective M10 fighter-tankers, although many continued to be employed by the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific theater until well into 1945. Other nations also used them, including Great Britain and France. As part of its outstanding series of M2/M3 half-tracks, Dragon is pleased to announce the GMC M3. Notably, it is the first 1/35 scale vehicle of its kind produced with updated specifications. The open-air combat vehicle is richly detailed, with a large number of completely new molds in keeping with its vocation as a fighter-tank vehicle. This means that the combat compartment features a completely new configuration. The M1897A4 75mm cannon is also a completely new element, designed from the ground up with extremely high tolerances. Its protection is injection molded with a scale thickness that matches that of the original. This 1/35 scale plastic kit from Dragon is a worthy candidate to continue the M2/M3 family line and is ready to go into battle in the Pacific, North Africa or the Mediterranean.
